A Brief History Of... The Streamer's Guide!

I. Love. Film. I'm also lucky enough to have found a partner, Lauren, who loves it at least as much as I do, so starting this podcast was a no-brainer. In the winter of 2016 we were both in college, me for my Bachelor's and Lauren for her Master's, and we were spending a lot of time on school stuff and not a lot of time on fun things together. The Streamer's Guide to the Galaxy was born out of a desire to spend more time with my wife doing the things we loved, although Lauren gets all the credit for coming up with our final format.

The Streamer's Guide was actually conceived as a vlog that played on YouTube for a few months, to absolutely no fanfare at all. The lighting was awful, we had no audio equipment outside of the mic on the old Sony camcorder we used, and we were nervous as hell the whole time. Needless to say, it wasn't great. In the early part of 2017, we made the decision to convert it to a podcast and I hunkered down and studied everything I could find on how to produce a podcast competently. Fun fact: the first few episodes can still be heard as originally filmed because I just cut the audio and put it in the podcast stream. In March of 2017, we officially premiered as a podcast and the rest is history!

So what is The Streamer's Guide? We review the best (and sometimes the worst) that streaming video platforms have to offer. We also discuss the latest news in the streaming video world as well as have head-to-head brackets throughout the year that are themed relative to the holidays and special events that pop up. It's quite fun! There's also jokes, Devon tries to come up with stupid segments, and Lauren makes the occasional veiled threat to off me and take over as the sole host of the show like some kind of Highlander-esque podcast Quickening. Not sure why. Our cats also co-host some episodes, but they don't contribute anything else besides adding to the time it takes me to edit the show when they barge into the studio and touch our XLR cables.

If you love television, streaming video, or hearing a married couple talk about how much they love GLOW, then this show is definitely for you. Give it a listen, won't you?
